Open enrollment on kynect closes at the end of the month, and Kentuckians who do not have healthcare coverage in 2016 could face a tax penalty. The penalty in 2016 is $695 per person ($347.50 per child) or 2.5 percent of income, whichever is higher.
New this year, kynect has a shopping tool to assist consumers in targeting their search for the plan that fits their insurance needs. The shopping tool helps estimate the annual medical cost for a household and determines the most cost-effective plans available for individuals and families on kynect. Individuals who need health insurance can visit the kynect website or contact an insurance agent or kynector to see their options for health coverage in 2016. They can also visit the retail stores in the Fayette Mall in Lexington or the Mall St. Matthews in Louisville to receive in-person assistance. Medicaid enrollment is open at any time.
